Scotty Triple rod holder

Postby cctubefan » Fri Aug 19, 2011 8:54 am

Need opinions on using one of these on a yak (Tarpon 120 specifically). Too big and bulky? Affect casting angles too much? Or do thjey work fine?

I need to find a way to carry rods that works for me, thinking 2 tube rods, a spinnerbait rod and a musky rod. Putting rods in holders off the milk crate gets in the way of my backcasts, and makes it a real bear to get a rod out of it while still in the yak. Just laying them down in the front means they get tangled.

What I do for the rods holders on my milk crate is put to right behind my back on the front and then two more on the opposite side of the crate from my casting arm. I cast over my right shoulder, so the two on the side go on the left side of the crate. I rarely snag a rod on a backcast this way.

I've also got the Tarpon 120 for this set-up. I will give one other hint on the rod holders that are on the front of the crate. THink about putting them on back, so that you don't have to pull boxes between two rods.

I have been considering the Scotty Triple for my Pescador but am not sure of the size and other issues.

wyd has them on his Emotion Temptation. He posted some Pics of the setup here awhile back.

Maybe he will chime in here on how it is working out for him.

Is your Tarpon the older design or the current design with Slide-Trax?

If the older design (like current Perception Pescador 12.0) install a set of Scotty rod holders behind the cockpit, on each side of the small hatch (as far outboard as you can). You can go as simple as the Scotty Spinning rod holder with deck mount or the round flush mount, adjustable extender and power lock rod holder.

You can also mount a pair of Scotty's to the outboard sides of your milkcrate, just make sure the crate is secure in the tankwell.

If you have the current Tarpon you can install a pair of Scotty's (or RAM) holders on the tracks by utilizing the Mighty Mount from YakAttack (Screw Ball for the RAM)....simple!

Any of these installs will get the rods out of the way of your backcast, give your boat a lower profile and allow you to access the rods much easier, leaving the front deck clear for the "fight"!

Heritage Redfish, but same install as older Tarpon.
