It would be nice to know who makes those for BPS. My rods range from BPS units to St. Croix to a few GLoomis rods, but I'm looking at Shimano because of that warranty!

I have been hearing a lot of good things about the H2O Ethos series of rods that is Academy's store brand as well. If they are as good as people are saying I can see adding a few to the collection. They are regular priced at $59 and I guess once a year they go on sale for 25.

I checked them out a couple of days ago and I was impressed by the initial feel of the rod. I guess I am going to have to pull the trigger on one and find out for myself. Even if its not what people are saying, at that price I don't think I can go wrong. I may just add the H2O casting reel to it and try out the combo. The reel has gotten rave reviews as well. I guess Academys warranty on their H2O stuff is great as well.

I like ST Croix and love to fish with them but, I have found myself fishing in some wild water out of the Yak lately and I really don't want to lose the avids to the river gods.

Some factory in China

Sometimes you can have an idea by the looks of it: I heard before that some of the reels are made by the same place that makes Pfluegers. The rods are still a mystery to me.

Its no secret that I love my BPS CarbonLite. I have the 7' MHF spinning rod. I carry 6 or 7 rods with me most trips, and even though I know its not the best use of my gear, I find myself trying to tie on my favorite lures to just that rod so that I can use it the most.

The CarbonLite is easily in the #1 spot on my list of rods in the $100 to 150 category... And God knows there are so many available in that category now!

I think you made a good choice leo. :ugeek:

There are lots of good rods in that $100 range, I have to admit, the Carbonlite is among the best at that price point. Right there with the Denali Jadewood series. I have had a chance to fish a few of the more popular ones, the Abu Veritas, St Croix Mojo and so on. You made the right choice of the ones you were looking at! The Veritas has a dead feeling to me, the older Compre (havent held the new model) was ok but nothing special. I hated the Mojo rods, they felt heavy, dead and just less than appealing. Split grips are all fine and good but.... There has to be counter balance to account for the reduced weight behind the reel. The Mojo line sure doesnt seem to have that.

There are so many good rods for $100 these days! I think the Carbonlite is definitely a go to rod. I recently passed one up ($40) 'cause it was a 7 footer and I just couldn't get the right feel for it. 6' seems to work for me in every application.

My go to rod is a Bionic Blade MH F 6' 1 Piece with a Spinning outfit. Love it! I also have a Johnny Morris Series II and an Ugly Stick. Looking at buying a Travos by Okuma to replace the Ugly Stick. Rods are all about feel and comfort. Personally, I don't have not paid more than $30 for a rod. I have no issues with C/L and have been very fortunate in finding excellent rods in excellent condition.

My rods either end up in the lake or broke by some unforeseen stupidity by me or a friend. I just can't see spending 100s every-time I need a rod.

I have fished with a Carbonlite rod for about a year and I have to say it is a great rod. I now have chance to fish with a couple of Kistler rods and I have to admit so far I like them alot. One is the Micro guide Crank Bait rod new for 2012 which is a Composite Glass/Graphite Medium 6'6" it has the sensitivity but also the graphite gives it the back bone needed to haul in the fish and the other is a 6'9" MH All purpose rod.

another great 100 dollar rod is the Falcon Bucoo.

I dont mind using rods around that price point for larger, non-contact baits. In fact I prefer them so if they happen to break, it doesnt hurt as bad as some of my more expensive rods.

I find the Carbonlite is very well built and not as tip heavy as the Mojo series. One of my fishin buddies has three of them. I find The Veritas is very good as well althout kinda stiff for non-contact baits IMO. I think the Mojo is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a NICE budget rod for moving baits (ie: spinnerbaits, lipless cranks) They also offer the glass crank rod which is also pretty sweet. IMO the Mojo looks the coolest out of others in that price range..that purple just shines in the sun. :ugeek:

Plus when you register your Mojo online they will send you a nice sticker to throw on the side of your boat...the others wont

Funny thing is, I buy some nice rods on the recommendation of my fishing friends, and miss T has won me some nice rods right here in the KBF challenges. I have done okay... caught some nice uns, and lost a few. :P

Miss T? She fishes with the same rods she has for the last 40 years... you can't make her change... Ugly Sticks. 8-)

Ya'll can say what you like, but she has been spankin me hard these last few years, and quite a few others here.... with her $60 ugly sticks.

"Not enough feel in the tips..." they tell her. :?
But she can feel those huge bass pick up those worms and slowly swim away.... and BAM.. citation bass in the boat.

"Not enough backbone for the really BIG bass..." she has heard more than once....
Martha went 25-1/2 inches last year... :D

I think she will be stickin with her "Sticks."
