Z-man Products - A review of sorts?!

Postby Goblin » Mon Apr 23, 2012 9:39 pm

Hey, where do you post +/-'s on products with this forum? Anyhoo, purchased some Z-man plastics after a guided trip on Lake Anna. Was really impressed with the indestructibility of the lures. Literately used the same lizard all day long and caught a couple of handful of LMB, see pic.
Purchased some lizards and to my amazement they went from sticky to goo within a weeks time. Only came to my attention out on the lake. Totally disappointed. On the direction of a friend, I wrote Z-man about my experience. The lures themselves can not be mixed with any other plastics, period. It's clearly written on the package. I am confident I did not mix; and at the time my belief was heat from direct sunlight. Upon further thoughts, it may have been having them in close proximity to other plastics within their open packages, enclosed within a ziploc bag. I guess we will never truly know what happened to the lures.
Z-man being a new company and serious about fishing and the fisherman was all to happy to replace what I purchased; no ?'s asked: Plus, a butt load of Z-man product for my troubles including attire. This is a USA product and I have to say I am seriously impressed with their commit to us, the fisherman. You just don't find that in any industry today.
Anyhoo, if your interested, I recommend checking out their Lizardz as the LMB tear them up. They float and Texas rigged with a 1/16 sinker makes them my fist choice for this time of year.

I bought some Zman craws last year and the same thing happened to me when I put 3 or 4 of them in a plastic storage box. They all melted together and I chalked it up to the hot sun as well. I still have yet to try out the lure but I was impressed with the quality and bouyancy of the craws aside from the melting. Anxious to give them a try this year.

Where did you get yours at and which one of their products would you recomend for a jig trailer? I'm looking for something with floating pinchers.

I orginally purchased mine at Sturgeon Creek Marina on Lake Anna. Then I came across a limited selection at Walmart. I'm sure they can be purchased directly from http://zmanfishing.com/cms/. or contact this guy directly and he can help you:

Their craws are awesome. I used one the other day and caught a small bass on it. I think I like the way it looked more than the bass. LOL.

I had the same melting problem. They do look really good on a spot remover. The only issue is that they are difficult to thread onto the jig. Once you get them on there they work well.

yeah I really like Z-man plastics. They are quite difficult to put on a hook, but they are truly indestrucable...unless you let the sun hit them for too long

The ones I have are the Crawdadz and if floating pinchers are what you want then this would be a good one. I agree that they are hard to thread onto a wire coil but seem to be really on there once you get it. Can't remember if I got mine at Land Big Fish or Tackle Warehouse.

Another factor at work here might be that all tackle trays are not designed for soft plastics. Most of my tackle trays are Plano 3600 and 3631s that do not have that issue, but I did have an older generic tackle tray from Bass Pro that did melt my soft plastics sitting in a climate controlled room in my house, so sunlight is not always the only factor to consider. When in doubt, leave them in the pouches. They are easier to change out and carry with you in the kayak that way.

If you put them in the "smoke" colored boxes it helps. I have actually started using old Gulp Alive tubs for assorted Zman storage. If you put Zman in with other brands Zman plastic will eat the others. Kinda like a beta fish
