Redesigned Shimano Reel

Postby MidTNKayakAngler » Thu Jun 21, 2012 3:42 pm

Well Shimano just came out with the Calcutta D Series, which looks like it will replace the Calcutta B series. I've been eyeing the Calcutta TE reels for a long time and was about to pull the hammer on a 101GT, and 401, and just wondering if they will come out with a newly designed Calcutta TE. If they come out with a 301 that would be a big SOLD for me. I don't know why they don't already make the 300 in a lefty series. I do like the silver much better than the gold. I'm glad I've waited, but hope they don't put more plastic on it like they did the Calcutta D Series, that would probably be a deal breaker.

I was looking at it as well last night. Looks like a few more plastic pieces. I'm just going to buy up all the old curado Ds and Calcuttas i can find

No doubt. I love my silver 200 Curado and my gold Calcutta 200B

Yeah, I think I'm going to wait until after ICAST and see if a new TE comes out, or I might just go Daiwa. If I went with Daiwa to get the silver I would have to go with the Pluton, and I really don't want to spend that much, and the Luna's are appealing also.

I really like Shimano, and would rather keep using their reels, but I'm not being compensated, so why not expand my horizons.

The Daiwa Exceler HAs are mostly silver now with only slightly accented gold lines......reasonably priced.

I really feel more comfortable throwing 3-8oz swimbaits with a baitcaster instead of the spinning reel, but that is a good looking reel. The Curado 200&300E's handle swimbaits up to 2-3oz fine, but looking for a little more beef, and can double duty in the saltwater.

I would really like to go with a round reel.

The Lexa does look interesting, but I'd like to see some reviews on it. The Lexa is similar to the 300E, but with more drag, and aluminum side plates. I've not needed any more drag than the 300E has afforded me.
