fly fishing

Postby justintr34 » Thu Jun 28, 2012 8:37 pm

so with the help of padre and poppy and many more i bought my first fly combo.all i orderd was combo but when i got the package there was fly line leader tipit a red shed hat a fly dvd and 10 flys and guess how much that cost me ZERO ZIP ZILCH NOTHING NODA i didn't even have to pay for the combo.poppy is one kind man and is very dedicated to getting young guns like me into the sport of fly fishing.if u need anything for fly fishing please look at his shop.so i watched the fly video for awhile and learned the basics(i do not have them down yet lol) and then set up my leader and tipit and i practiced for awhile.then my dad took me to my neighbors farm pond where i caught a bluegill a rock bass and a largemouth, when i caught the largemouth my rod snapped(we think it was just a defected rod)so i called poppy and told him what happened he just wanted to make sure i was having fun,he told me it was covered by warranty and to send it back. THANKS POPPY hopefully i can figure out how to post pics http://s1168.photobucket.com/albums/r49 ... 5_7183.jpg http://s1168.photobucket.com/albums/r49 ... 5_7184.jpg http://s1168.photobucket.com/albums/r49 ... aspx-1.jpg

Great stuff, Justin. I'm glad Poppy came through for you and that you got into fish. That's spectacular! Did the return on the rod go okay? When will you get the replacement?

Something to keep in mind, if you don't know this already. You should always wear some sunglasses when you're fly fishing, even in low light. It's not just about seeing fish; it's about protecting your eyes. With fly casting, that fly is whizzing back and forth near your head. Keep those eyes covered.

good stuff, the red shed is one of the few "traditional fly shops" that is remaining, and like the name says it is actually a shed. Its really awesome to see poppy hooking up kids for the sport.

Great stuff Justin! Glad to see a youngster start fly fishing. Keep at it and it'll be a hobby you can do for many years to come.

As for posting pics, just copy the image code from your PhotoBucket picture, paste it into your message on here and it should then insert the picture to your post, like this (fantastic picture by the way)...

Again, keep at it and have lots of fun! Oh, and congrats too!

Awesome job and congrats on your first fish with a fly rod! :D Took me FOREVER to get mine when I was first learning.

Looks like you have a nice assortment of bass flies too with the clousers and poppers. Don't know if you have any trout streams near you, but look into some caddis flies and adams parachutes. Nothing beats a top water strike and fight from a good size brown trout.

Good luck and keep at it!
