Olympus makes a Stylus Tough 8000 which they even advertise as made for downriver kayaking.

Olympus Stylus Tough 8000

I know that there is an ongoing thread here for the comparable Canon model.

Please post up if you've had personal experience with this or a similar waterproof camera that is built to take knocks like we encounter in our fishing.

I'm looking for something relatively compact for documenting fish AND fishing trips!

Oly's have great image quality, as long as you stay away from low light images. Their waterproof cameras have a good reputation, though Canon's D10 has kind of cut into that. Find a store that carries, it, bring your own flash card, and take some pics, and look at them when you get home.

I have the 6000 and bought it back in October. It seems to be a decent enough camera, really like the software. As for putting it through it's paces, I really haven't done this. I generally attach mine to my pfd and then put it in a pocket in the pfd. So unfortunatley I can't really comment on the paces for the shockproof. I have stuck my hand in the water, just to do an underwater shot and they seem decent, I don't really have a basis to compare with though. Overall I am satisfied with the camera. Hope this helps some.

I don't own that one, but rather this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Pentax-Waterproof ... B0019V2CW8

I like it so far, I turtled in a kayak last year and it went in the water, I had a float attached to it. Didn't harm it at all, definitely water tight. Good quality pics.

I have an Olympus Stylus 6000 SW purchased through the Olympus action site. So far I like it a lot and was able to get with a substantial discount over retail even with the purchase of an extended warranty.

I watched a YouTube review video of the main waterproof point and shoots and the one all the reviewers loved was the Canon D10, which is what I recently bought.

My dad recently got one of those and loves it though he hasn't really put it around water yet. I've got the 1050sw and through the past year have really used it a lot. I've taken it in the swimming pool, dunked it in the river a couple of times and even dropped it a few times. The only thing I ran into that wasn't the camera's fault was a fogged lense due to it being a really humid morning on the river. I carry a little micro fiber cloth to clean drops off the lense if needed as well.

I picked up the W80 last summer. Took it on a tubbing trip and would say it was underwater a good part of the trip and worked perfect the whole time. Its only draw back is in low light it can get a little blury and if you get into the digital zoom its a little grainy. Other than that it takes great pictures. Its been almost a full year now that I have had it and Im not easy on gear and its still working fine.
