Wed morning on Doah 7/11

Postby oubassman » Tue Jul 17, 2012 10:19 pm

Little late on this report, so here you go. Decided to hit the Doah before starting work last Wed morning. Ended up going to an area that I hadn't been to yet this year to see what would happen.

This area is full of ledge rock, both parallel and perpendicular to river currents. Upstream of launch is a significant ledge rock that crosses the entire river, so I started heading up that way. Stopped below some mid river ledge rock and got a few hits on a Strike King Mini Pro buzz with no hookups. Did manage a little on on a WInco River Darter. Got up to the ledge rock & fast water current seams below that. Started alternating between War Eagle Finesse spinnerbait, Winco Darter, Buzz Bait & grub. Managed to pick up a few more smaller ones on the Darter & then this little bigger smallie on the spinnerbait

Worked the upstream area for a few hours before heading back down towards the launch and some shallow ledge rock with faster current seams. Picked up a few more on the Darter while working down & even one on an X-rap in both parallel ledge trenches and push water above mid river ledge rock. Got below the ramp and finally got rewarded for throwing the spinnerbait. THis 16" smallie slammed the spinnerbait in a faster water trench & jumped twice.

I ended up with 11 smallies in about 4 hours. The 16" was the biggest fish of the day. I caught them on the spinnerbait, Mini Pro Buzz, and Winco River Darter.

Way go to work on em before work ! I've always found it tough to try new water when I know there is proven water nearby. Glad to hear it paid off for you.

Sounds a wonderful way to start the day. I would find it a tad difficult to pull myself off the water just to go to work.....

It was tough. If the fishing had been better, might have ended up feeling under the weather :D
