Good Cahaba River Float Yesterday, Oct 12th

Postby BamaFan » Sat Oct 13, 2012 9:33 am

Four of us did a nice day trip on the Cahaba River yesterday. One of the guys I work with (Frank) and I met Brian (Nooner) and Lance (RedHeron) at the launch about 7:00. By the time we shuttled my truck and trailer down to the take-out, it was after 7:30 before we got on the water. The day started out slow and I was getting nervous that the fish just weren’t going to cooperate after I invited these guys to fish a place I said was a good place to fish. Well, the fish finally decided to cooperate and everyone caught a bunch of hard fighting Spots. Frank hadn’t fished in years and it was his first time fishing out of a kayak, so I was really hoping he would have a good day. He ended up catching at least 10 and had a couple nice 2-2.5Lb spots in the mix. Like just about everyone who fishes the river the first time, he commented on how hard those spotted bass fight. He had a good day but said he was beat after a day on the river. I’m not sure how many fish Brian and Lance caught, but I know it was a bunch and I think they both got a few nice ones during the day. Hopefully one or both will post some of their pictures. I ended up having a good day with 5 Spots that were 3lbs or more and one really nice one that went 4lbs 12ozs. I’m not sure what the total numbers were, I quit counting the dinks after 25. Here are some of the pictures I took:

Quality fish right there - love those shady overhangs for soft plastics (especially Confidence Baits lures like Little Tubes and Floating Birds).

Well done!

Great post! Looks like y'all had fun out there. And I'm glad your buddy had a good first time kayak fishing adventure. I bet he had a ball out there!

And that's a decent sized pot belly in thos last few shots. He's a hoss for a stream like that.

It was a great trip as always. I also only caught dinks for the first good part of the day. But I did get one worth measuring and photoing. I had a total of about 11 some were so small they hit the lure as it was coming out of the water and didn't stay buttoned. A lot of fish caught were good fighting one pounders hard to believe they were so small after the fight they gave.
