Here is the Smallmouth bass prediction for the middle James, looks very promising:
Virginia DGIF:
" Middle James River (Scottsville to Richmond)
Smallmouth bass fishing in the middle James has the promise of a very good year in 2010. Similar to previous years, there will be numerous bass in the 10-12 inch range to keep anglers busy this spring. The 2007 year class was exceptional and those fish are going to be a big part of the 2010 fishery. While the 2008 and 2009 spawns appeared to be below average, anglers can still expect good catch rates from the 2007 and 2005 year classes. Results from fall 2009 smallmouth bass samples indicate that anglers can expect a much improved fishery for bass greater than 14 inches. The largest fish sampled in 2009 was 20 inches which is much improved from previous years. Biologists are ever wary of the chronic disease and mortality impacts to the upper James River each year, but so far impacts appear negligible in this middle stretch of river. Biologists continue to actively monitor the severity and impacts of this fish health issue."
