John's probationary review was due today and the manager hated to tell someone that worked as hard as John did (well, once he got there.
The time came and the probationary interview went very well, and after all the good stuff, they came to that part of the interview where the form allotted space for any need for improvement?
"John," The manager started, "I just find it hard to believe that in your time in service, you didn't have to be ON time. I know you didn't take this job for the money, I know you are here to get out of the kitchen so you aren't driving the wife crazy all day long, but it is a job, and we need you here on time..."
John agreed that punctuality was important and he said he would try and do better, he was bored with retirement, certainly enjoyed the job and would miss his coworkers and the people he talked to every day if his final probationary interview in another month or so didn't show improvement.
They shook hands on it and as he stood to leave the manager said, "John I just have to ask, you have everything else so together, how is it that you could be so sharp with your dress, people skills, be so well spoken, and obviously so educated, and not be on time everyday." What did they say to you in the Navy when you walked in late.
With a twinkle in his eye John grinned at the manager and said, "Why they took my coat and hat and hung them up and said,
"Good morning Admiral, would you like tea or coffee this morning."
