Probably not going to work today...

Postby w2n » Mon Feb 13, 2012 2:13 pm

The "Produce Express" derailed 9 cars last night on a connection track that the trains I'm running on now have to use.

Here are pics from the local news paper: http://www.norwalkreflector.com/content ... gallery-46

Pretty good mess going on there. Hopefully I can get out tonight... its hurting the bank account. :|

Wow, that made a mess...Where do you begin to clean up something like that? Bring in the heavy machinery I guess.

1: Get the cars off the tracks and just pile 'em up on the side:

Do it by using a few "sidebooms" and such:

2: GET AT LEAST ONE OF THE TRACKS FIXED ASAP

3: Start running trains ASAP

4: Get the cutting torches and start making scrap out of the piled up cars and mangled track sections.

Wow, I just saw that after you posted it.

Wade, I'm glad you weren't involved, and hope you get back to work quickly. I guess you don't have a guarantee.

Start by making sure the area is safe, all crew members are accounted for, call RJ Corman with cranes and heavy equipment to get the trucks and cars back on the track and getting them out of the way. Then access the damage because there is usually just as much damage caused by the contractors cleaning up the derailment the actual derailment causes. After all the mess is cleaned up then go in and access the damage, the track panel is replaced, and rails replaced, then the Signal Dept will go in and finish up the work to ensure safe operation. It's actually a pretty quick process because every minute that track is down especially if on a single main, or if both mains or track have damage or unsafe to pass trains. All while this is going on investigations are going on also to find out who is responsible, why it happened, and how it could have been prevented.

Wow .. that's a major derailment! Serious stuff right there. I work as a switchman and even the smallest derailment can spook you. I hope I'm never involved in anything like that. Those railcars and tracks can have a mind of their own sometimes. Takes a half second to go from good to bad. Hopefully everyone is ok and it was track failure instead of human error. It is amazing how fast rail crews can get everything up and running again though. Hope you get back to work soon and be safe out there!

From what I'm hearing a wheel broke on the first out car as it was going making a diverging movement from the main to the connection track and that was that.

Wade,
Are you going to start putting banana peels on the RR tracks when spawning starts?
