It's a valid point. They tend to get ignored because there are so many of them. I try to keep my banner list to 3 or 4 and rotate them every couple of months.

I dont find them cumbersome in this forum. I have been to forums that are pretty hard to read but it has never bothered me here.
I dont know how much traffic it drives but I use them because it is faster to get where I want to go.

Or run Firefox with AdBlockPlus, and turn off the ones you find most intrusive (but leave the site's ad banners up as a courtesy, naturally).

You have to click on the ABP Icon, select "Open blockable items", and individually select the images. That way, you can leave what you want. ABP won't automatically pick up forum banners.
