Good story to share ..... slightly off topic, but hey.
I flew out to fish the Kern River with a buddy a couple years back. The Kern River is a class V river in Central CA, that gets stocked with some nice trout regularly. We got a cabin and hit the river early with no luck. The river was flowing up to its banks. Water high so we focused on eddies and our group only got a couple fish.
Buddy and I tried everything to no avail. Then we decided to call it quits and buy a slosh pack of beer. Hit a small store with groceries, beer, and baits. As soon as we walked in, we heard the crickets chirping and both of us had the same idea. We walked out with two dozen crickets, a cricket house, and a 12 pack of Corona (hey, it's CA).
Hit the river and both of us got limits. I got the big fish at just over 18". As we walked back to the truck with our stringers, a DNR ranger guy stopped us - not to check our licence, but to see what our secrete was when no one else could catch a cold.
