Pulling Crankbaits for Crappie??

I was thinking about trying it in the morning.Do you have any advise on rigging? I'll probably try pushing since my only rod holders on the rear of my Yak are on my crate.

Most use light line with a small deep diver, 10ft type, in a white. try around the old ponds below HWY 43.

Years ago I used to just haul them in with the Rebel Deep Wee-R. I was not actually targeting crappies but I could not keep them off the hook.

Looking back, what I was doing was trolling a crankbait on 6 pound test (about 8-10 feet down) and was connecting on suspended crappies in the middle of summer.

When bass fishing I usually hook up with a lot of crappie and other fish with my cranks. Kinda annoying, cause you'll be fishing the crank and then it will feel like a dead weight. And there will be this tiny crappie on the crank.

I'm not an expert but from what I understand,"pushing" is facing your pole(s) out of the front of your boat and using a 1-5 oz weight to keep your crankbait at a certain depth.You slowly troll around at about 1 mph.
"Pulling" is hanging the rods out the back with the crankbaits pulling down to a certain depth.
This morning I had my rod hanging off the side of the boat with a tiny crankbait and about a 3/4 oz weight.....I don't know if I was pushing or pulling.
I didn't catch anything but it was kinda relaxing.I could hear he rattle of the Crankbait through the Kayak hull and it didn't take much to make the bait wobble.
Paddling wasn't really affected and if ypu had a good breeze,you could probably take a nap and still be fishing.

Yes I was specifically targeting them.A couple of years ago I got into a few 14" Crappie on this same lake.They put up a heck of a fight.

I will pull a crankbait or two while on a lake or a res moving from one location to another or just in search of fish. I've caught several crappie doing this, but it's mostly in the early spring. I let out around 40yds of line and begin paddling around 2 mph.

I've never caught a crappie on a crankbait. Maybe they are deeper than what I usually fish in the summer
