During the summer months, working the "seams" between fast and slower moving water is always a good bet. The smallies hang in the slower side and ambush food. Let an 1/8oz to 1/4oz jighead, depending on depth, with a plastic craw, tube, etc drift along the seam.
Shady banks with wood and rock cover are always good on sunny days. Good targets with spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, crankbaits, and plastics.
Ledge rock and smallies go together. If rock is perpendicular to current, look for fish down in the trenches in deeper area.
