you can stay in touch with fishing by doing your maintenance on your kayak,
maintance on your gear,
go thru all your lure boxes and change out all the rusted or broken hooks, organize the tackle trays again for the new season to come:
- throwing out all the bad plastics,
- sorting the good stuff into some recognizable order
- sort your spinner baits by size
- jigs into a box
- small crank baits into another

Me? Nah... Miss T did her gear... got bored then started on MINE!

I reload, read thru the six bookcases worth of books and clean the guns, clean out the various storage areas, try to organize the previous years JPG files from the years outings... prepare the public speaking I'll have to do... and of course any honeydo lists I'll have to avoid....

Just enjoy it while you can!

MikeOGNR wrote:Ya but fishing in the winter isnt everything frozen out..? and I would love to hunt and Cost is not an issue i just would want to do it for a decent like 2-3 months which in new hampshire i think Deer hunting goes from September to December or something like that i just dont no what i would need for bow hunting and i would love to fish year round if you could go in more detail haha

I hunt but I'm not the best. I got one deer this past season and lost one (long story) and then got to see the biggest buck I've ever seen and he winded me the day before the season was over for me  I was sick to my stomach  .

It would take me A LOT of explaining to cover it all. I suggest that you go to a Bass Pro or anyother shop like an Archery shop or another specialty store near you and they should really be able to elaborate and phsically show you things you need and should know about hunting.

http://www.deer.com/ Googled and found this website. Maybe these guys could help you more than I could.

Another thing to keep in mind is to NEVER go hunting with out somebody with you the first few times. Although I can legaly hunt by my self and do so, it is just always a good idea to have a friend with you and to be close enough where he could get to you within 15 mins.

But the main thing would be is to try to talk to local game wardens and locals in shops around you to find out everything you need to know to hunt in your area.

And if you do talk to someone and they start showing you things like treestands and bows right away, immediatly adress to them that they haven't even asked what kind of land you're hunting (private, magement area, hunting club) because that plays a big role in to what gear you would use.

Ever thought fly tying? It is addicting and fun.

What about Ice fishing on some of the frozen lakes? I heard Pearch and bream from those frozen lakes were the bomb.

Plus here in Bama we don't see that solid liquid stuff too much

I would sya look for trout fishing. You should be able to find something to fish and if you get into fly fishing you cna then add fly tying into your arsenal which is an easy way to keep yourself occupied for the winter.

I fish as long as their isn't ice and this year we have been pretty blessed on that front :)

Just make sure if you are fishing in the cold you have the right clothing and gear because a dip in the drink in 75 degree water is always funny but in 35 degree it can go south real fast.

I used to just go into a more severe form of insanity. These days, I TRY to keep fishing year-round. This year has been difficult due to the lack of ice available for ice fishing, but too much ice to be practical for kayak fishing or shore fishing for the most part. Because of this, I've taken up fly tying. :D

You are correct that you probably can't do it by yourself. But I can suggest that you go to DuckhuntingChat.com and sign up. Go to the New Hampshire Forum and tell them you want to tag along with someone near you. Waterfowlers love taking kids out hunting. Just show up and help setup, work hard and they'll teach you what you need to know.
"If you can't have fun doing it, it ain't worth doing." ... or you're just doing it wrong. :D

Well, it's never really over, but I don't really care to venture out into truly miserable weather. I do boat and tackle maintenance (never ends), catch up on inside the house honey-dos (buys me some kitchen passes), fish when the weather is nicer, or like any good, level headed warm-blooded creature does, and head south for the winter, like the US Virgin Islands.

Drill a hole in the ice & fish or find a fast moving trout stream and get some excersize walking the banks & casting

I've used cross country skis & snow shoes to get to open streams.
