Where are you fishing? In the spring and fall when the water isnt too hot the fish will stay up shallow all day long with adequate forage and cover.

If your style of fishing is shallow then you can find fish all day long in the shallows, even in the heat of the summer.

You need to look for areas that are cooler or have higher oxygen levels. I seem to do well on shady pieces of structure and also where any type of creek enters into the lake as those areas seem to be cooler and more oxygenated.

I have also had some pretty fun days fishing heavy vegetation in hte dead of summer but you need to fish deeper down in the grass and not so much at the top.

Hope this helps a little bit....

Dont wear yourself out , I see alot of guys get slack mid day . When I used to fish tournaments and get a random partner I would to see guys fish hard then dilly dally around mid day.

Yeah , just try to find a local chapter and see if you can make a meeting to talk to them . Normally theres some one that doesnt have a regular partner . I had a great guy I paired with for a couple of years ,we used my truck and boat he always paid for half the gas for truck and boat , he bought the food and normally threw me another 10 20 bucks for other stuff. Some tourneys I fished you had to have a partner and swap out at launch . Most guys want a partner any way because it always better to figure out what is working quicker with 2 lines in the water.

You can still find them shallow, as it's been pointed out. Look for shade or something that will make the stay in shallows better.

Hawk offered you some good advice, as a co-angler it gets tiring mid way through the day, although you get adjusted to it after 5 or so tournaments. Most clubs, including mine and any real tournaments the boater is mixed with a different co-angler every tournament. Putting pictures up here is confusing or I would put up a picture of a 4.5 I got in 2 ft of water on an isolated stump in August flipping a paca craw and 1/4 oz tungsten weight. There are always fish up shallow, as MCCA78 here Mike says, if shallow is all they know then thats what they stay with, some fish never venture too far from their spawning grounds.
