I second the west fork....suprised to even see it mentioned...it was an honorable mention in a wv game and fish as one of the states top musky fisheries...ive tangled wif a few in shallow water at close quarters while smallie fishin...they seem to get the best of me as i almost always use 6lb fluro.
Ive been fishing West fork since i was 12...been catchn footballs under the same trees and behind the same rocks for years....dont be scared to fish this stream right in the middle of town...caught 18inch plus fish while standing beside a rusty shoping cart
hell my presso hagans combo was put together to throw 1/32nd ounce gitzits in this river....I like using lighter jigs wif a smaller hook for less snags and less throw offs...spinning rigs would end up wif to much line twist...also i think not having a roller and bail in between me and my jig gives me a lil edge for a light take.
Can even catch monster sauger and trout below the worthinton dam, not to mention white bass and giant flatheads.
Theres been talk of dam removal...funny thing is recreation groups r against it...i personaly think it would make the westfork one of the best smallmouth fisheries in the state. dam removal would increase current and lessn sediment (muddy water) Ive noticed theres less sauger and more largies the last couple years.
I make a couple out of town trips every year and have yet had a trip where i didnt think if i just stayed here and spent all day on West fork id done better!
