Daughters' first float trip

Postby jason_h1 » Mon Apr 09, 2012 1:58 pm

Hello all. First report-ish type post on this forum. Our local Lake Brantley is currently releasing water for irrigation, which makes for a much more enjoyable float trip in the Pecos River below. The release effectively doubles the river's normal flow and virtually eliminates the dreaded kayak/canoe dragging that has caused friends of mine to swear off this section of river without it. The fishing was poor, with only one decent channel cat caught at camp on a trot line.

Not only was this my girls' first real float trip, it was also the maiden voyage of my new kayak, a Feel Free Moken 10 Angler, with which I could not be more satisfied. The only sad part of this trip (aside from the fishing) was that at the first rapid of any consequence, both my daughters took a spill. Aside from a few scratches, the toll was one lost rod and reel, and a broken paddle leash (paddle recovered, thank God). Knowing that there were more difficultly maneuvered rapids to come, we elected to call for rescue from our dear Uncle Kurt and Aunt Julie. Julie took the girls and one yak home, Kurt and I finished the float.

All in all, a great day. The girls had fun and only seemed concerned of being excluded from a soon to come Devil's River trip because of their spill. 8-)

Here's some pics.

For some reason, I seem to only be able to add one picture at this time. Is this normal? I will try to go back and add more later.

Glad the girls are ok.

As for pics, Photobucket is a good way to add multiple photos to a post. You're only allowed 1 attachment, as that takes up more space.
