Hook storage

Postby flyfisher » Wed Apr 18, 2012 9:41 pm

How do you guys all store your hooks. I currently open all my hook packs and use a Z-rust flambeau box to store along with my weights but i was wondering if any of you leave them in the packs or use some other way to store them.

It seems like i find myself holding up hook sizes to see which ones i want or the bins get mixed up a little and i think i have aparticular size when really i am out of what i want to use.

Same here..I think Plano bought Falcon---or at least the rights to their plastic boxes, it' in the Plano FTO line and is for terminal tackle---hooks, bullet weights, swivels, etc.

I also use the Falcon/Plano/whatever it's called now box. The only problem I have had is if it gets turned upside down or shaken up a fair amount, some of my smaller hooks get mixed up and thrown all around the box.

I might have to look into the shelf liner trick.

So all of you guys open all your packs and empty the hooks into their compartments?

I was trying to find a way to leave them in the packs but then i also think that may just lead to more potential of hook packages blowing out of my kayak.

I use to take all of my hooks out of the packs and combine them in a small plano. But the hooks would tangle up and be a mess to get out. So now I keep them in the factory packs and stick them in a ziploc bag together. I stick the ziploc in my PFD pocket and have hooks when I need them without fighting to find the right size or type in a mass of sharp metal.

I leave them in packets put them in a worm binder zip lock, I currently have large binder that I took some plastic business cards holders put them in worm binders and folded hook packets so they would slide the in business card holder slots. I also put my spinner baits in business card holders as well. Works great the only problem is the work binder is kind of big and bulky and I have filled it to brim so it is difficult to reach around and pull out with one hand. Will down size to smaller work binder that I have but still use business card holders and or sleeves for hooks and spinner baits as it works pretty well.

My problem is I not quite sure what to use when to use at this point so I tend carry everything including the kitchen sink

I am definately getting one of these...but I saw somewhere on a fishing DIY thread (can't remember if its here) but they used some small pieces of foam cut out to put hooks into keep them from sliding around in normal tackle box. :D

Or theres this way to....http://www.smokerisefishing.com/index.p ... nd-tricks/

I like the safety pin idea. I may have to use that one in combination with the business card holder idea too.
