I just want to throw my vote in for the St. Croix MojoBass. I've had mine for a few months and love them. They are super durable and I tend to slap them around a lot. I've landed some good Stripers on them as well (28 pounds the biggest). They are a great rod for the price.

My Rod in the $100 price range? Shimano Crucial  Yep, $112 shipped to my door, brand spanking new. ;)

By far one of the best rods I've ever used. But you can't find a deal like that all the time. I've got a Clarus too, and I love it. Ugly Stik? Yep, got that too. ;) I think I have a rod from every NORMAL price range.

Edited to clarify...

I'm still having a hard time referring to rods in the $100 range "budget" rods.

I guess if I had the means I would venture into that range but I cant justify it at this point. My dad was a pretty successful tournament fisherman with the $20 Cherrywoods from Walmart. I still have a bunch of those and some Lightning Rods. My very favorite rod is an older Lightning Rod. It is a 6' pistol grip and I can fish every single bait I have on it.

The only "good" rod I have is an iRod I picked up from a forum member recently. I havent used it enough to form a full opinion but for being a big, frog/jig rod it is really light and easy to handle. I think it runs in teh $150 range.

I guess the way I see it is, you can spend at whatever level you feel comfortable with. There are rods that will do the job very well at all ranges, including $30 or $40. They wont look as cool or be as light as the $250 rod but I dont think they are $200 worse.

100 bucks is a bunch of money for a piece of graphite, I hear you.

I know there are some good rods in the 30-50 dollar range, I like the Berkeley lighting shock and I heard the AMP series is pretty nice for 29.99. The 100 dollar mark is a point of diminishing returns for me: I can get a quality rod, with good components and fish it hard, above that I get nervous using the rod for fear of breaking/dunking it

I agree with ya. Anything above $100 is pretty much for a slight upgrade in sensitivity and a giant upgrade in look/feel of the rod. (meaning cosmetics, weight reduction, and ergonomics) I think my favorite price range at the moment is $170-$200. IMO you get the most bang for your buck without it being too rediculous.

Ive had SEVERAL rods under 100 bucks and quite frankly ive caught most of my fish on them. ($20 spinning combo k-mart special is my baby)...While I prefer high dollar rods for the collecting aspect/fun of it. I will always have a place in my arsenal for a "cheap" rod or two. Its also good to have a few rods like that for when your non-fishing friends want to come....or live bait if the fishing is horrible :D

Also, that $1000 rod above is sexy as hell, but Id rather buy another kayak. I dont care how collectible it is..id never fish it.
