Went Bream fishing

Postby flflash » Fri May 04, 2012 10:27 pm

Had a training class today over at Seminole Community College which I knew would be over by 4 so I took my Kayak, 4wt flyrod and a handfull of poppers, sliders and woolly buggers thinking I'd hit this nice lil Bream lake on the way home. First full moon in May the bluegill in this lake should be biting!

Well this isn't a Bream!

Or this

Figured I'd try a Round Dinny they always catch Bream......same problem!
Image
Well this one's a lil bigger anyway?

Running outta time to catch a Bream

Nice! Although, I don't have a lot of sympathy for your "problem"

I absolutely love my TFO Finesse Series 7'9" 4 weight. I have it overlined with a 5 wt Wulff Triangle taper. This set-up is easy to Yak with or wade in tight streams. It roll-casts like a dream and I typically fish size 16-18 dry flies on 5X flouro tippet. I love using this to catch bluegills and small Bass topwater. I have found this type of practice with timing in the hook set has increased my trout catch markedly.

Somedays I'll take a 4wt along just for bream, I love the wet spiders for bream, as well as Tina's Cricket pattern, a realistic that kills on bream and crappie. That rubber legged spider falling thru the water column drives the bream nuts as well.

Bream... the B team on most folks fishing roster but so much fun, and in a couple of our fishing spots they get so big they looked deformed. :P

If you look closely at the pic you can see some rubber spider feet hanging from his mouth!

Recently bought an Echo Carbon 3wt 6'-6" rod for sunfish and small trout streams. Looking forward to giving it a go on some Bream. Where would a good bream lake/pond be within a short drive of Springfield, VA?
