gutcheck wrote:Great report Louis! Athens is one of the best small lakes around northeast Texas. It's known for schooling lmbs in the 3-5 lb range in early summer. Also, the freshwater fisheries center is there. Always kinda cool when you go there to realize that there are some 13-16 lb fish somewhere on the premises! I have a feeling that Athens gets some undocumented stockings from there... Some MONSTER bluegills in that lake too.
Purtis Creek SP is just down the road and I almost always end up stopping there when I head in that direction since its one of two places in Texas where a sharelunker bass has been caught from a kayak... Truth is, though, that Athens is a much better fishery these days. The few times I've passed up PC in favor of Athens I've had really good days. Should do it more often. I think Athens is a place where the A Rig would work really well.

I've been having great luck with the swim baits too. I think every single strike has been with the bait on the fall or glide, or after it hits the bottom. I am finding that fishing it like a worm, with the lift and let fall action, seems to get their attention more.
I am loving the salt action but those fish make me want to get back in the sweet water this week.
