Tina's large hopper has been very popular here for some reason. She recently donated her pattern for use by the local Project Healing Waters chapter and they have been selling them at fundraisers the last few outings. They have been selling out of all they tie...

I printed up Fly Rod Citation Bass for them to use to help sell the fly.. It seems to be working for some reason. 8-) The fly itself is pretty sweet, and can easily be fished several ways on the fly.

It can be short jerky strip and it will hop on the water.
A sharp hard strip and it pops.
Finally, after multiple casts, the legs causing the fly to spin in the air twists the tippit or leader and the fly will twist and flop on top of the water after it lands.... imitating a dying bug.

All three movements tend to attract fish... including some big ones. ;)

I know she tied a smaller version for our panfish fly swap about a year ago and i haven't had the heart to throw it yet cause it just looks so nice :)

Of course after seeing your picture i may just throw that thinking out the window....

here is a video how to tie it musky style, but you do the same way tying it for smallmouth.

purchase materials there.

Phish-The Ep styles can make some sweet flies, but they don't have the action that i like in some of my bass flies like a CK Baitfish It is hard to find a CK Baitfish Properly tied, It appears montana fly ties them correctly, but have never fished them, if you tie them with weight in the back it makes them dart as much as a slug-o or a fluke.

The fly I had was prolly a badly tied one so may have to give it another try since you bring up the "Fluke" which is a hot plastic they garners a lot of strikes from bass and catfish especially on top. Look like I have to give it try again once I can find the materials.
As for EP, if you tie it sparce and use loop knot then they have plenty of actions. Can't discredit all them big bass I have caught on it since it came out. :D

Now I like to find some really thin piece of silicone type materials like they use now for cooking and kitchen use.
