This Evening I Fished a Fly I Tied

Postby Not2Day » Wed May 16, 2012 10:12 pm

The only fly tying materials I have so far is a pheasant tail, some hooks, and some thread. So I've only tied a handful of flies and they are all the same. It's called an "EZ-Nymph" and they are really easy.

I'll be glad when the materials I've ordered start coming in so that I can get into some different flies.

I took my 5/6 wt down to the lake and tried my EZ-Nymph for a little while this evening.
On my third cast I got this guy.

Then this little guy.

and then a few more.

I quit with about 10 bream and 4 bass on my fly. I tried to get it in front of some big carp but they were staying just out past my casting range :( That would have been really interesting on that rod if I could have stuck one of them :o

AWESOME job!! :D Pretty cool, huh? I've done about eight flies and I'm already addicted to tying. I like that EZ Nymph. Seems like those simple flies work really well. Congrats on getting some tug on your own ties!

Thanks Nate. It was pretty cool to catch some on my own tie 8-) I can't wait to get going on some bass flies and get them out to some water that I know holds some good sized bass.

Outstanding! And looking really nice and clean, especially for being your first tie. If you could only see my first tie....

Tonight is the first time I noticed it was WHISKER! That makes so much more sense I've been thinking for a year, "man. I like bourbon, but this guy REALLY likes it!" I've even told friends of mine, "hey, did you see that post the Whiskey Wrangler made?"...Yeah I've even been trying to rationalize it... I thought maybe your job was to transport the casks around the distillery or something. -knobcreekman

Nice work AJ. There's nothing like catching fish on a lure you've made yourself.

I might be tempted to scale that thing up to about a 3/0 hook and see what would hit it

Nice Job on the fly and the fish, it always surprises me how a sparsely tied streamer catchs fish.

I remember the first fish (a trout) i caught on a fly i tied, i became obsessed and have been into it ever since. Took a trip last year out to Montana to fish for some native trout (<---like the one in my pic <----). It was a blast, im heading out to Idaho in late June to visit some family and gonna try to get away and fish majority of the time.

congrats on the fish and keep tying!

Awesome...
Now we need a step by step (SBS) on the fly.
The fly was succesfull on multiple species and
that qualifies as a SBS. Please share to encourage
the fly tying noobs like me.
