If there are bugs on the surface then there are fish there somewhere most likely. I have seen bugs busting all over the top before and not a single blowup. I later figured out (after relying on my trout fishing background) that the fish were not keying in on the insects on top but more as they were emerging right below the surface.

I would also add in a weightless rigged fluke or yum dinger rigged weedless. They seem to do well in those types of situations, rarely get hung up and you can let them sink when you see them near any type of pockets in the grass.

Bottom line is never give up because you never know, there may not be a lot of fish there but there is always the possibility of a few big ones there that will more than make your day :D

I'd say go back. You caught something so there has to be fish in there. The lack of surface activIty just shows that conditions weren't right for them to be actively feeding.

The reason i got a kayak was to get out and away from the crowded shores and small docks.I've always fished from them, and I knew I could do better if I only I was able to get to that sweet spot over by the cove or in my eyes the holy grail, a "drag and drop" spot.

I'm right there with you! If you look at a lot of my posts, they are for places like you are talking about. I would say give that pond at least one or two more visits before writing it off. I've spent hours looking over Google Earth and following creeks looking for possible places to launch and following rivers looking for any hint of a hidden oxbow lake in one of the bends. Then I'll drive a maze of old dirt roads and even what used to be roads in some instances to find a place I can drag my kayak down to the water. Maybe 1 out of 10 (or less) of the places I see on Google Earth actually pay off, but looking is part of the fun and finding that one really nice creek is worth all the effort. Some of the guys who have fished with me often ask "how in the heck did you find this place"!

I am going to hit this pond again, with this mindset.

First Bass from my kayak! I learned that I need a ruler on board, and a park and pole. This was from a different lake.

Nice 1st kayak bass!

I say give the pond another try. Try to go when you have a whole day to fish if possible. I made a recent discovery this spring on a little lake that I though would NEVER hold many bass. With time spent I learned otherwise.
