New from MO.

Postby Mudcat32 » Thu May 17, 2012 9:57 pm

Hey everyone,
New to kayaking but not new to fishing. Been fishing my whole life but wanted to bring physical activity to my fishing life. I just got my kayak and havent even gone 1 time yet. All I can do until next weekend is read about how awesome it looks  I've got enough stuff to go out and start the adventure but am looking forward to narrowing down my likes/dislikes about my gear. Gotta start some where. I am intrested in tracking where I've been and how much water I've covered. Obviously, I'm sure GPS is the answer. Any ideas on how people go about doing this? Are there software programs that let you log that kind of thing. I havent looked into it too much and need to do my homework. Does anyone else do this? Living in Missouri I have access to all kinds of lakes and rivers right here where I live and would like that track that kind of thing.

I'm south of KC. Just east of Nevada. Close to Stockton Lake/Sac River/Osage/Truman Lake/Niangua river....That area. Saw a shop in Peculiar I hope to make a visit to. Being from Kansas City, where do you fish at?

KC Paddler is the shop in Peculiar. On Rt J just past the Flying J truck stop. I fish all the conservation/state lakes within 75 miles of the house. Most of the lakes only allow paddle or trolling motors. There's an old quarry down your way near KS that is supposed to have some big bass in it. I've been meaning to get down there, but haven't made it yet.

Welcome to KBF. It's a great site.

You might look at the SPOT Messenger as an option for tracking where you've been. It also gives you the ability to send text/emails to folks telling them where you are and that you're okay. There's a second option to send a non-emergency help request to another list of folks. And there's an SOS feature that contacts emergency responders and sends them your gps location in a real emergency. It gives my wife a lot of peace of mind, especially when i'm fishing alone.

Wow, Thanks. That is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. I like the extra features that come with it too. Like you said, going alone probably makes my wife more nervous than me. Thanks
