Any Traditional Archers here??

Postby Problem Child » Wed May 30, 2012 8:30 pm

I'm putting my Kayak fishing on hold this coming weekend to go to the 8th annual Howard Hill Traditional Archery shoot at Tannehill State Park in Alabama.
My son and I have attended all of the Howard Hill shoots at the park and it's a blast.

The event usually has around 500 shooters and I probably know 75% of them. We've met some very nice people from all over the Country.
We're heading out early Friday and will be camping till Sunday.

Might have to go check out the Coosa River while we're in the neighborhood.

I have shot Traditional and even went down to primitive. I stopped shooting as bow hunting is difficult on finding a place to hunt around here.

Always wanted to go to the Hill shoot, seems like every year work or something with the kids comes up that weekend. I mostly shoot at Lost Tribe near Collierville,TN. Make my own takedown longbows and recurves. Been shooting trad since 1994.

Yep, I've been shooting traditional since I was 11, although I dabbled with a compound for a few years. Wasn't my cup of tea and went back to recurves and longbows. I get on the traditional message boards now and then, and am active in the Compton Traditional Bowhunters. I just got started in this kayak fishing stuff, and really enjoy it, but traditional bowhunting will always be my number one hobby. It's in my blood I guess.

A buddy I work with makes from scratch primitive longbows, they look awesome and I'm trying to learn. I love shooting these things freehand with no sights, just makes you feel good to hunt without all the technology the way the natives use to do it.

I shot traditional for many years. I have custom longbows, recurves, and hybrids. We also make out own arrows with custom designs. My son's first buck was a six point shot with a custom recurve hybrid. He's never shot a compound bow and is absolutely deadly accurate with traditional gear. Even when he was 8 years old he could shoot all weekend at moving aerial targets and not miss one. He's like a machine. We've done a some huge traditional shoots here in PA over the years. They are tons of fun!
