Central Virginia Heroes on the Water

Postby vakayakangler » Wed Jul 04, 2012 1:42 pm

Let me introduce the Central Virginia Chapter of Heroes on the Water.
We are currently working with the McGuire Veteran's Hospital and the Virginia Wounded Warriors Project to take out our groups twice a month in the Central Virginia area.

One event is a Saturday event which usually takes place at Sandy River Reservoir in Prince Edward just outside Farmville. Prince Edward has been extremely supportive of our efforts, even installing a kayak slide at the boat ramp area to accomodate our Chapter!

The second event is a Wednesday event and is usually held at Bear Creek Lake State Park in Cumberland. The park staff has also been on board from day one and works very well with us, accomodating us in every way possible. Bear Creek Lake State Park is one of the top parks in the the state and they don't allow gas powered boats, perfect for our needs.

If you are in the area and would be interested in volunteering or are affiliated with one of our groups and want to learn how to participate as one of our HEROES, contact us by emailing Miss T: kayakfish@verizon.net

We are hoping to add a third partnership with another local clinical facility serving returning vets, which will add a third event with approximately 15 - 20 Heroes per month to our outings. Wish us luck on this new venture. The servicemembers will need the time on the water, the clinicians are anxious to see first hand the theraputic benefits of kayak fishing, and we just want to provide the opportunity. :D

Only a five hour drive. Closest to me I think? Too bad I can't car-top that far at highway speeds.

I wish you the very best luck!!
