Personally, I feel they should be kept separate. The "River forum" is a location and place to fish whereas "Other species" are .... other species to catch. As the site grows there will probably be more of a distinction between the two, and you might have to go through the hassle of splitting them again.

If not a big issue, say keep the same. Agree with Simon's point about potential to split again as site continues to grow.

simon does bring up a very good point about one being location related and the other one not.

thats good enough for me. i say keep them separate.

chad may i ask what the reason in you are wanting to combine the two? is it because of a lack of topics? if that is the case, then i have to admit that i post my trips almost exclusively in the "Been Fishing" section... lake or river and im sure im not the only one. maybe we could get more posts in the river section of river fishing if there was some sort of way to mark the topic with some kind of "Been Fishing" flag or something? (sorry George, like you dont have enough to do already :| )

Personally, I'd like all the fishing reports in one place, all the meet ups in another, any tips and techniques in another, and the rest can be in other species. I still don't see the value in segregating river fishing from the rest. Why don't we have separate forums for ponds, highland reservoirs, impoundments, natural lakes, etc.....

I feel different techniques are employed in river fishing vs lake fishing, depending on the size of the river. Different spots are targeted for example, current breaks, confluences, behind rapids etc.

These are all still considered lakes ;)

Each still requires different techniques......

I think the crossover would make both river and lake anglers better.

I'd prefer to keep them separate (again since one is species based and the other is a location). Since I almost wlays read threads through the "new" button, it really doesn't matter to me how they are broken up. If its easier on administrators to have fewer forums then I'd combine locations with locations and species with species. Thanks for seeking input! :geek:
