FLY OF THE MONTH!!!

Postby Knot Right » Sun Mar 08, 2009 12:23 am

We are going to select a fly of the month and put together some great rewards with gear, gift certificates, etc. In order to do that there has to be enough interest to make it worth while. Let's get it started and make it worth while. Post up your best bass flies!!!

How about a basic foam popper:

Image

Materials:

Hook: Mustad S74S SS #2
Thread: White Uni Big Fly
Tail: 16 Strands Pearl Krystal Flash/Supreme Hair
Body: White Block Foam
Eyes: Red & Black Craft Paint
Coating: 2 coats Clear Loon Hard Head with Micro Glitter/2 coats w/o glitter

The body is made by cutting a foam cylinder from a white foam block. The cylinder is shaped using a Dremel tool and sanding block (600 grit sandpaper).

My Cricket, one of the best flies I have ever invented, the Bass love this as well as other species.

Heres my Crayfish fly;
Mustad Wet Fly Hook #2-8
Body: Cream Hares Ear Dubbing, Cream Furnace Hackle
Back Cover: Olive or Brown Fuzzy Foam
Feelers: Wild Turkey Feather
Eyes: #30 Mono
Tenticles: Pheasant Feather

Step #1; Tie Colored Thread to match Fuzzy Foam to just over the Bend
Step#2: Tie in small 1/4 inch wide Fuzzy Foam at bend of hook.
Step#3; Tie in Furnace hackle, just in fron of fuzzy foam.
Step#4; Dub on the cream Hares Ear all the way to the front of hook just behind the eye to leave space for the tie off.
Step3%; Wrap Furnace hackle forward and tie off at front clip off extra.
Step#6; Tie in equal amounts of Turkey feather barbs on either side of the hook along with Mono Eyes and Tentacles.
Step#7 Divide hackle to either side and pull Foam over to the front and tie off, then pull the excess back and whip finish. Cut small hole in end of Foam to pull over eye and then trim.
Tah- Dah easy and youre done, a Bass catcher you will not believe, just match your area crawfish colors, and youre sure to catch -em......

If you want to tie in weighted lead to the front half of the Crawfish to weight it down you can do that before you dubb it, but only the front half to make the rear stay somewhat upward as you retrieve.
