New Guy looking for others in Middle TN

Postby steven troilo » Tue Jul 17, 2012 2:55 am

Hello KBF members,
My name is Steve and I live in Nashville TN. This is my second season as a kayak fisherman. I bought 2 pelican 100 sit ins last year knowing they were not exactly what I was looking for, but due to money I had to make due. My wife and I used to have a canoe and she enjoyed the river trips we used to take.

We had a beautiful baby girl a little more than six months ago and realistically she does not have the free time like we used to in order to have both kayaks. I am finding it hard to get in time on the water myself. I was lucky enough to sell both kayaks for what I paid for them. This left me still with a small budget but anything would be a step up.

After lots of research I decided on the West Marine Pompano 120 because it is the older mold of the tarpon 120. I really had my heart set on this years ride 115 but I could not wait any longer to save up the money.

I have had my new kayak out once so far and love it. I did not try to stand in it cause I have not gotten my humminbird mounted yet and there were lots of things not leashed down.

If there is anyone in the middle TN area that would like to hit Percy Priest or Old Hickory let me know. I think maybe if I had someone else to go with my wife wouldnt give me as much crap about it.
Thanks
steven troilo

Welcome. I am in Mt. Juliet and like you do not get out as much as I would like. My wife is the same way with me going by myself. The problem I have is most of my fishing trips end up being quick and not much planning. It seems any time I plan ahead something comes up. There are a handful of us here from the middle TN area so I am sure we can hook up sometime.

Welcome fellow Tennesseean.

I must be one of the lucky few who's wife doesn't mind a couple trips a week. Albeit, one is usually just a morning trip, but still! ;)

Welcome to KBF, there are quite a few of us here in Middle Tennessee. I was getting out regularly then the heat came then the monsoons. I work all week this week, and have our Chief Engineer in town so I'll be unavailable. Let me know when you are going and I'd like to join you sometime, or we can throw a meet and greet float trip together for sometime next month. That way you can get acquainted with the others in the are and trade info so you will have more fishing partners. Most of my fishing before the rains was being done during the week from 10pm-1am, but that's makes getting up at 5:30a difficult.

I would actually prefer night fishing with the heat we have been having. I have only gone out at night once and didn't have any luck.
I think my wife would be a little more understanding if I was going with some other people, she would feel like I'm not just out farting around.
I am leaving next week for charleston sc and will be gone for a week, have a overnight off shore fishing trip planned. Also plan on doing a lot of red fishing and maybe some trout and flounder.
When I get back I would love to get together.

Enjoy your trip. Tommy aka Too Busy on here has a kayak fishing guide service located in the Charleston area. If you get a chance you might want to drop him a line. Here is his website http://kayakfishsc.com/.

I'll be headed out of town the week after next.
