GLoomis SBR812 FAIL (Eatin my words NOW)

Postby Plasticpirogue » Mon May 28, 2012 7:54 pm

As a spinnerbait nut, I have always wanted a GLoomis SBR812; I have always understood it to be purpose built to chunk blade baits, and having the GLoomis name on the side it's quality right?

So I stepped up to the plate back on May 2 and put $215 on the cash wrap and walked out of BPS with a hot-shot WarEagle chunkin mo-sheen. Well, it didn't even last 4 weeks....6 half day fishing trips, maybe 12-15 fish....before the stinking reelseat decided it wanted to be movable. The Fuji Seat didn't break, the rod didn't break, but the glue bond between the reelseat and the rod blank let go. I was retrieving a spinnerbait this morning and I looked down and noticed that all of the guides were pointed off to the right at about the 2 o'clock position. "WTF" I think to myself "Houston, we got a problem".

To make matters worse, I just looked online and see where it's going to cost me $ and time to send it back. I thought all of you GLoomis fans have said it's an over the counter swap. Everytime I talk about St. Croix, somebody always comes back bitchin about the St. Croix warrantee and saying if it was a "good" rod, like a GLoomis, it would have an over the counter exchange. This is my only GLoomis and based on the long durability experienced with this one, it might be my last.

The warranty took a dump after shimano took over(correct me if i am wrong)

I have a GLoomis and love it but I won it. I don't think I would pay that kind of cash without a good warranty

Sorry to hear about the failure, sounds like someone skimped on the glue. G.Loomis changed their warranty policy this past spring I beleive due to people taking advantage of it "that's what I herd". Now it's more difficult and more expensive for us honest people.

I think i would have snapped it in two across my knee .. Bo Jackson style (Bo does know fishing) ... and then sent it back. I'd be really ticked on that one! Sorry to hear about that.

GLoomis hasent really ever been that great with warranty issues.

My neighbor used to fish them exclusively and switched to st. croix for that very reason.

Sorry about your rod, that sucks especially at that price point. Better stick to your blue rods from now on. 8-)

No kidding. I am taking it to BPS tomorrow and see what they might do. If I can convince them to give me my money back (not likely, but I do have my reciept from LESS than a month ago) I think I will just buy a SC Avid 6'6" Med/Fast and THEN send GLoomis a nasty second e-mail. I have already sent them one that basically says "WTF?" The second e-mail will most likely mention that I am a Crew Member here, very active, (sort of) respected, and would feel "duty bound" to let our 4000 members know exactly what happened to my one and only GLoomis. ;)

Good luck with that, nobody ever seems too bothered by emails no-a-days. Phone calls work better, its more personal :D

Bummer on the rod.

I am guessing BPS will take it back no questions asked. I was talking to the guy in the fly fishing section of my local BPS and he basically said they will return anything within reason.

I would say yours is well within reason.

Good luck.....
