Okuma trio 30?

Thinking about getting another reel. Anybody have experience with the okuma trio (good or bad)? I saw 1, caught me eye, and the specs looked really good for the price. Thanks in advance.

Talk to Juan Veruete (PA - Smallies) of Kayak Fish PA or Tommy Samuels of KayakFishSC (Too Busy). Send them a PM.

They are both licensed guides and really put the "screws" to their gear on a daily basis and have been using these reels I believe for at least one full season possibly more.

Great real. I had one on one of my steelhead setups. I left it in my brothers drift boat out west before I moved and well, just told him to keep it.
I plan on picking up a couple more in the near future. I had the hi speed model and will get the same. The hi-speed model is the black and orange. I had 30# PP Braid on mine and it worked great.

Cool, thanks for the info. I picked a combo up at Wally world. It's the okuma trio 30 (the regular gear ratio) on a okuma tarvos rod. If it works out good for me I'll probably start replacing my inshore reels with them in the near future and pick up some of the high speed models too. Again thanks for the replys.

Awesome reel, I use it more than my high dollar shimano's most of the time, thanks Too Busy for the info on the reel!

Great reels.. they are work horses. My get beat around and wet all the time. Still functioning nicely after a handful of seasons. This is more that I can say for some of the other reels I've had in my arsenal.

Hi Juan,

Are you using the high speed version or regular?

I picked up a high speed version (Trio-30S) this spring and it has performed well to date. I really like it for throwing spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. It handled a 23''+ catfish that attacked a s/b with ease. Drag was flawless during the fight and that kitty gave it a good workout. Tough to beat the price point for trios, especially if you can find one on sale.
