What also works just as good as live bait in many situations is Berkley Gulp Alive. I will drift 1" Gulp Alive minnows under a slip bobber and verticle jig at the same time. If you have a fish finder, that will help locate fish and cover water. Crappies pound the Gulp Alive and I will normally catch 2-4 fish per bait. Try it out! You won't be disappointed.

I only this year started crappie fishing but trolling with Mepps XD (extra deep) inline spinners and Rapala CD05 sinking stickbaits have worked well for me. Both have enough weight to get down somewhat deep without needing the extra speed a crankbait needs to get down deep. That being said I have always heard that small crankbaits will slay the crappie when trolled.

I want to catch some to eat but the best I can do on a good day is three or four top( I mostly just jig a sassy shad or cast one on a weedless jighead with spinnning tackle). The water temp right now is high 68-71 and they have pulled off the bank, and I am totally lost on how to find em and catch a mess. Does anyone have any tips or Ideas of where I can find them.

A little late to your post but will put my two cents in. I catch between six and eight hundred Crappie a year......most of them well over one and half pounds....and I only fish for Crappie 6 or 7 months out of the year. I would advise you to try a Trout Magnet...or Crappie Magnet...and use nothing but 2# test line with a fluorocarbon leader. I can guarantee you that if you are not around any cover there will be a Crappie next to every rock in that lake....holding tight to it on lots of days. I would count down until I started catching fish... and remember the depth you counted down to for your next cast....and that depth can change everyday. You may or may not know Crappie will not go down to hit a bait....it has to be above them. The Trout Magnet is only 1/64 and the Crappie just can't resist that slow fall and twitch. I have not posted on here as I just started fishing out of a kayak in March. Hope this helps you out.

X 2. The stringer of Crappie in my avatar photo all came off the Trout Magnet, fished deep on a slip bobber. Tasty! :)

Also a drop shot rig with Berkley Gulp Leach works great.

I don't crappie fish, but one time (on accident) I got into a school and pulled out 7 nice ones with a kvd 1.5. I've even hooked big bluegill on it. All around sumberged tree-tops.
