any of you guys around fredericksburg know if the shad are here at all yet? i know the rivers still up a little but i have the day off tomorrow and thought i might at least give it a shot.

If you want casting practice go for it. NO shad yet, and the river is way to high for you to be able to get a bait down to them in the water column if they were there right now.

Maybe by next weekend, but I suspect this year it will be the end of March before the shad show in any significan numbers.

went out and tried for a bit today, current was movin pretty good and it was still a little up and muddy, no luck. Did get to try out my new rod and reel though so not a total bust. Maybe next weekend....

went out again today and caught a couple, one was pretty decent sized, hopefully it gets better soon
