This 7 pound, 15 ounce shoal bass was four ounces off the state record and less than a pound off the world record. Even though the caudal (tail) fin appears red this bass was not spawning, it was just an old fish with a permanently worn fin. It will probably be a state record when it spawns during the next full moon at the end of the month...it was released unharmed.

great job!

thats a hawg of a shoalie bandit.I expect to see your name in the books shortly with fish like that.I hate to see spotted bass in there though.how long have they been in there.as far as I know we havent seen any down here yet.with the marking on the face I would almost say that was a cross ,but I have never saw a spot so I couldnt really say.heck of a day on the water.congrats.

Spotted bass are in just about every river system in the state now...and they have colonized most (if not all) parts of the Flint River. Not really sure what markings you're talking about but I've seen a few shoal bass and I think I know what a spot looks like.
