I would say the 9wt is overkill for LMbass... maybe a 7wt on the high end... but since you have it already it can't hurt incase you nab a BIG bass, LM or striper, and it'll do well for Reds... For the bass I would stick to straight up 9wt line get a spare spool or another reel for the salt, make sure it has a good solid sealed drag, and load it up with 10wt line for the reds... I have all my salt rods overloaded by one weight and I can really feel the difference in the casting... more distance and smoother... The Orvis Wonderline is super smooth and a breeze to cast. It runs about $70 but I found some on sale for $20... After fishing in the salt and using El Cheapo lines, I have found that the money you spend on a good quality fly line pays for itself...
