Tying Room Setup

Postby Padre » Wed Jun 13, 2012 10:27 pm

My family has finally joined me down here in Red Stick; we've moved into our house; and i'm finally getting a fly tying room. After a lifetime of tying on the coffee table, i can't wait to get it all put just the way i want it. We're still surrounded by boxes, so it will be a while before everything is in place, but here's the first step. I can't wait to get tying again. It's been too long.

Congrats padre, you'll love not having to break down and set up over and over again. Watch the yard sales and discount shops for an old lingere chest... the flat drawers in those will make a great feather chest for hackles and other fly tying supplies.

Thanks for the tip, Jim. Never heard of a lingerie chest, although the name brings certain lovely images to mind. If i can get my stuff unpacked and at hand, that's the vise and desk where i'll be churning out a dozen red, white, and blue flies for a good cause. Already have a pattern in mind. Fingers crossed it'll happen.

Nice. I have my little shop set up after many years of bugging the wife leaving my fly tieing & rod building stuff on the dinner table.

Me neither, but if you find a used one, I hope it isn't empty. :o

When i first got it, i just got the pedestal base, but later i called and ordered the clamp and the L-extension. I'm glad i did; it was not too much after that that i heard he'd retired. I emailed him again, and at that point he did still have a good number of accessories on hand. I want the material clip, but i haven't followed up on it yet.

The lingerie chest is basically a tall chest of drawers that is made for a womans lacy things. The drawers are shallow and there are an increased number of them. They are perfect for feathers and hackles for just that reason. Also great for flash, chennelle and the like. More drawers in the same space. I haven't been able to find one for Miss Tina, but once my shoulder is repaired and working, I plan to make her one in my woodshop.
