March Brown Ltd. Hidden Water 10 wt

Postby nikonjedi » Sat Sep 26, 2009 10:48 am

When someone tells me they have a 7-peice rod I kinda laugh to my self. I know of 3 peice rods that feel like clunky off balanced dookie sticks so when I heard abou tthis 7-peice 10wt form March Brown I had to see what it was all about. First off March Brown specializes in travel rods... I took a MB Legacy 6 Peice 8wt with me to Iraq and I was very impressed due to it coming in a very well padded bullet-proof case that was all of about 18" long. It was strapped to my pack all the way over and back... The new Hidden Water series 7-peice is even smaller... this one fits INSIDE my pack. When I first got this rod and took it out of the multi-slot sock it comes in I was impressed with the look of this rod. Beautiful Patriot Blue color and the reel seat while beautiful as well is bullet-proof. I assembled the rod. Each peice of the rod has a nice litle dot on each peice to line up your sections. VERY NICE... The peices slip together easily then bite and give you a secure feeling that the rod won't fly apart when you cast... and it doesn't. I attached my reel and threaded the line through the guides and began to cast. The line shoots through the guides like dookie through a goose. I even put on an O-L-D crappy POS BPS $4 fly line that has ben abused and is probably the worst line I have ever used but this rod was still able to load and shoot this line fairly well. Any other rod I have used the crappy line grabs the guides and can't get more then 20' cast. The Hidden Water rod while shooting a brand new Orvis Wonderline threw all but about 6 feet of the line still shot the crap line about 45'. To say the least I was impressed. I finally got a chance to work this rod out on the flats. The wind was HOWLING right into my face and I had problems with my 8wt. Still getting a decent cast but the 10wt was giving me more accurate casts as well as much more distance. I know a 10wt will throw better in the wind than an 8wt... BUT... this was different... I have used 10wts in the wind and got more distance but not better accuracy... All in all this rod casts and feels like a 2 peice rod. It's litrally travel size and still packs a full sized punch! If you are looking for a new rod especially if you'll be doing ANY travelling I highly suggest checking out March Browns Hidden Water series rods... Bulletproof rods with an unconditional world wide garuntee, really. I was in Iraq, broke the tip off my Legacy, called MB and within 10 days I had a new upgraded rod in my hands in IRAQ... these guys are serious abou their rods and stand behind them 100%.
