Half and Half Clouser Minnow

Postby Lawst Frawg » Tue Oct 20, 2009 8:26 pm

In order to get this forum some more I thought id start posting some step by step pictures and instructions on tying different flies every week. My camera isnt that good so maybe it would be better for you to do these chad or just for me and you to do them at your house. Lets see your flies when theyre done too!
This week we will be tying a half and half and it will catch croaker, flounder, redfish, speckled trout, largemouth, smallmouth, and striped bass. Just to name a few!!
Image
start out with a base wrap
Image
then put a pair of dumbell eyes on the hook and start to cross wrap on it
Image
when done eyes should be straight and level with the hook eye
Image
then tye in some hackle make it so they spread out and it looks like it should be flying like a bird
Image
then tye in a clump of synthetic flash(optional but prefered)
Image
then on top of the hook tye in your lighter colored bucktail or in this case purple
Image
then wrap behind the eyes so it is flat with the hook
Image
then wrap on black bucktail or the darker colored bucktail
Image
wrap so none of the excess hair sticks out
Image
apply some softex for a glue

finished product

one thing to remember is that if you are fishing a larger clouser minnow in the salt or for big gnarly non salt species (pike, musky) to epoxy the eyes and thread before you start tying and then epoxy the head when you are done. Just makes it last longer.

this is a great thing you are doing. Also check out my blog i have some step by step patterns up there but mostly for trout!
