Complete newb with all things flotation...North Alabama

Postby GrantH » Mon May 21, 2012 8:11 pm

Just moved to Huntsville, already want a boat of kayak, and a kayak is looking good for me. Looking at the typical "local" options to get me started but want to know what to really expect out of these.

I'm looking at the Perception Sport Caster mainly.

Welcome to the board and to the sport of kayak fishing.

Do some searches on the forums and you will have a wealth of information.

Welcome to KBF!!! The Caster was my first yak and it was good to me. It rides a little low in the water but no kayak is 100% perfect. Use the search function because chances are the questions you have are the same questions we all had at one point. If ya still don't find the answers you were looking for then just go ahead and ask! This place will really shorten anyone's learning curve!

That is what I was afraid of was how deep it sat in the water. I'm a bigger guy so I don't want something that is going to give me trouble every time I get in it.

Welcome to the family - take your time and paddle as many as possible. Don't undervalue comfort when you paddle. If you are uncomfortable after 5 minutes, first make sure you have the seat adjusted correctly and have someone watch you paddle. If all else is equal and you are still uncomfortable, paddle back and try another model or brand. Don't settle on your first kayak. Do you research and get your time in the seat in as many kayaks as possible.

Welcome to the kbf family. Unlike many other websites, you CAN ask questions here without being told to SEARCH for the answers in the archives. There is a wealth of information available there at the touch of the keys, but some folks aren't comfortable with that feature and would rather just ask...

I have left websites and forums because of the core of "ownership" that harrassed new members and felt it was there duty to initiate them. You won't find that here, the "real" owner doesn't allow it. When we say family, we really mean it. Have a question, ask it. Want to share your trip, we'll be interested.

Lose a fish? Tell the story, we'll laugh With you, not AT you, and then help you figure out what to do different the next time. We won't kick you while you're down... (at least not hard... ), after all... we're family.

Welcome home.
