I think you are right in not jumping into it. Buying a kayak is an investment and you want to make the best choice that is going to suit your needs. If you buy something in a rush and are unhappy with it now you are stuck trying to get rid of it for something better.

You are going to want something that is comfortable over time on the water (ie you can fish out of it for a few hours and your back doesn't kill you) and something that is stable.

I like to stand and fish so that is a must for me. And I like the idea of a sit-on-top with scupper holes because I like the option of going in big water and not worrying about capsizing.

You also have to think of things like storage and transportation so size and weight are considerations.

And of course price is also a factor but here are some models I'd think you'd like:

Wilderness Systems Ride 115 or 135
Jackson Kayak Coosa or Cuda
Moken 10
Wilderness Systems Tarpon series
Wilderness Systems Commander
Native Watercraft Ultimate
Wilderness Systems Ride 115
Jackson Kayak Coosa
Jackson Kayak Big Tuna

Welcome to KBF....If you can, take your semi local Bama guys up on their offer, test paddle a couple of the yaks......they know there stuff and are going to point you in the right direction, it would be well worth the gas/short turnaround for you in the long run..

Welcome to KBF and kayak fishing! You'll love it! I'm a little farther away down in Mobile (ok, i'm as far away as i can be and still be in the state). Are you from Alabama? if so, "well, how big a boy are you?" I was 300lbs when I first got into this, and when your weight is on up there - quality of construction counts. Just something to keep in mind. Lifetime warranties are nice ;)
