Hartwell Monday 6/1

Went out to lake Hartwell to scout some fishing for the BATTLE on the BORDER here in SC. The fish were not hungry at all except for this guy. If you look very closely you can see that his upper jaw is broken off 3/4 of the way back to his mouth. We couldnt figure out why he would hit our baits but not hook up until I set the hook hard. He was missing half his mouth. This was my only fish, which is sad. But it was nice being on the water and off the clock.

He had some beautiful markings.

These gar were on us all day. They would swim right up to you . You couldve reached out and grabbed them several times. Those teeth sure could tear you up nicely though.

A note about the teeth, on Lanier last week I meet another kayak angler that hooked into a three foot gar on an artificial lure. A boater was close by and came over to help him get the fish off, he said it bit the guy.......ouch! Be careful with the gar!

Nice gar man any line tug is fun in my book!! I'm not sure of this but I've heard of guys breaking part of the nose off wen they catch them so they will evintually die. Such a pretty fish though lots of cool colors.

Wow thats not good. This guy obviously was doing just fine although it took him probably 4 tries to actually get the bait in his mouth.
