First Time in the Kayak

Well Nitro talked me into it 40 deg air temp 10 mph winds and my first time in my Kayak i didn't fall Now all i need to know is how to catch fish when it's this cold where are they at? what do you use?

Man... that water has got to be in the high 30's/low 40's! Good luck catching anything that's in there.

I also got the bug today because it was so nice out... but rather than hit the water, I reorganized all my tackle and cleaned up the mess of a crate I had going on from last year still.

Congrats on getting out on the water!

Regarding catching them when the water is upper 30's to low 40's. I don't see a depth finder in your pictures so as a starting place look for a location that the bank slopes steeply into the water (one that gets exposure to the afternoon sun is good and one that also has cover is even better). Try crawling a bass jig with soft plastic trailer in these spots. You want to slowly drag it along the bottom. Keep at it. You may be fishing for only a bite or two all day but the bites are usually from better fish. Good luck!

Very good advice turtle, or you can use a drop shot or a big spinnerbaits slow! Water is about 36 here, and last weekend in the snow my buddy got a good one on a spinnerbait in standing timber.

Go slow and on the bottom for lake largemouth. It's definitely a challenge during the winter, especially with the wind. Jig and trailer is a good bet

Thanks for the advise we are going back out tomorrow, how about Crapie? same thing? deep jig with a trailer? IM HOOKED If someone would have told me 6 months ago I would be in a kayak fishing in the Middle Of Feb. I would have asked them what they had to drink I'm ready for the first catch

Excellent! I've been thinking about trying some fishing since the water didn't get hard around here either but the kayak is hanging from the garage rafters and bass tend to not cooperate with my fishing ability before the water hits 45-50 degrees.

BTW, I don't want to be the grumpy dude BUT jeans are not ok for this weather. With air temps in the 40s and water in the mid thirties you would be in big trouble falling in and getting soaked in freezing cold water, also jeans get pretty heavy when wet. I'd wear something more water resistant and layer with clothes that dry quick. There, I said it
