This was not in a kayak trip but this was a very special trip for me that I wanted to share. I took my son back home in MS to see the grand parents while I go to San Diego for a business conference. For those who don't know my son had a traumatic brain injury almost 6yrs ago and he does not have full use of the right side of his body. He can not use his right arm or hand at all. Anyway my dad has been dealing with some health issues this last year and is now doing much better. So I suggested we take the boat and try to catch a few fish. My dad had fixed up a rod mount on the boat so when Blaine had a bite he could reel in the fish with one hand and not have to hold the rod. We stopped and grabbed some crickets and off we went. We get to the ramp get the boat in and settled in for a great morning on the water.

Then my dad try's to crank the motor and nothing. The boat wouldn't start.

The trolling motor wasn't working right so I look at my dad and say this is why I fish from a kayak. Well after some genius engineering we got the trolling motor working and since we were on a small lake the motor was not a big deal. We get the crickets out and get the pole ready and before we could get the chair set up fish on!!!

He caught a few more before it got to hot and we loaded up to leave.

This is one of the few times the three of us have gone fishing together and it was a very special time for my dad and me. I'm sure Blaine will remember this and how he out fished his dad. I did manage to catch a few bass but I would have been just as happy with a skunk. It's because of times like this that I say it's not about the fish but about spending time with friends and/or the one's you love.
Oh the last thing Blaine said before we left is maybe next time we need to make sure the motor works before we leave the house.
