New Personal Best Largemouth

Postby CrX970 » Sun Jun 24, 2012 5:29 pm

I want to preface by saying I just started seriously fishing for Largemouth this past year, otherwise, its always been big smallmouth that were my passion. This is my new personal best Largemouth, even though she may not seem like much to you Florida or Texas boys/girls, we don't tend to grow them too big in these mountain lakes.

I hit my favorite stretch of river, as usual, and caught this big girl on a 1/2 ounce black/blue football jig with an unmodified Rage craw trailer. She measured a touch under 22'' and 6 pounds 2 ounces. Still barely beats my personal best Smallmouth, but fun nonetheless!

Sorry for the crappy photo quality, I wish it was better as well :(

And caught my 6th (I think, maybe more?) 19''+ smallmouth of the month

I went out again this morning and it had the makings of a FANTASTIC day, but luck was definitely against me.

I broke one off that felt REALLY BIG on some rebar, had a PIG smallmouth pull off about 10 feet from the boat (may have went over 20''), missed two on hookset...somehow, and landed one 18'' largemouth off a dock.

SUPER frustrating morning.

Next week I'll be fishing for some native Rainbow and Brown trout as well as hopefully some native brook trout up in the mountains. It will be a non-Kayak trip, but it will be a good vacation for the family as we have a pretty nice cabin rented.

Congrats on the new PB largemouth, and that smallmouth is a tank also.

I'm sure you've seen it on here and mostly on Facebook but I've been catching huge smallies for two months now. It's the best smallmouth post spawn action I've ever had. I'll be sad to see them move off to deeper water.

Oh, don't worry, the tables will turn. I just got my merchandising schedule and from August till Christmas I'll be swamped. Hopefully, the overtime will be worth it!

I'm a little higher elevation but most of our lakes and rivers were spawning out at the end of April and early May. However, I've been catching a lot of fish with big, prespawn looking bellies. Shad and crayfish are in abundance in this section of the river, so maybe that has something to do with it. I guess they are gorging since so much food is available.
