Rocky River Quickie from earlier in the week...

Postby w2n » Thu Jun 28, 2012 10:21 am

Im dog freaking tired and need to sleep so here is a quick little report about a very quick little trip to The Rocky River I made Monday morning (I think... the days are kinda bleeding together the past two weeks with the funky training/qualifying hours I have been putting in. Anyway, I digress... here are some highlights:

I got there and talked for a few moments with this fellow (Doug was his name I think... I'm so bad with remembering names. that's why I was in the Army... So I could just read everyone's names. ;) ) He was rocking a sweet Pungo 140 and does some light fishing from it as well. I told him to check us out and sign up so he could get involved in all the fun stuff going on around here.
Here he is getting ready to load up and head out:

After he left I had the whole darn place to myself because it was crazy windy that day:

My first fish was what I was looking for... a smallmouth (to bone myself with in the regional challenge thingy.  ). This smallmouth just happened to be the smallest smallmouth in all of Lake Erie or its tributaries:

I went up stream to some holes and laydowns and nabbed a few small largemouth:

I'm still trying to figure out why its called The Rocky River anyway(?):

  (we need a sarcasm smiley)

That's it. NEED SLEEP!

I'm glad you were able to get out during your hectic times, good luck with the training.

That is some nice looking water! Weekday trips are always better than weekends around here. You just about can't find a mudhole without some drunk RN's swimming in it. Good job catching a few nice ones and recruiting another KBF member!

Glad you caught some fish. I do sometimmes wonder where certain rivers got there names. Silting in can be a terrible thing. I have seen it turn awesome tributaries into fish-less water with nothing but sandy bottoms.
