Beaverdam 7-2

Postby TyF » Mon Jul 02, 2012 7:46 pm

Went out to Beaverdam today to specifically target deeper structure.

I trolled a medium diving crankbait and caught many white perch in around 10 ft of water but no bass trolling. as i was trolling i see a drop off from 10ft to 15 ft and fish on my fish finder so i put a marker buoy down and made a cast with a texas rigged brush hog to my buoy. 3 twitches later i hook up with the first and biggest bass of the day.

made a few more casts in the area with no more hits.

I continue trolling and get a good slam and nice fight with a disappointing catfish in the end. I got one more of these later in the day.

I saw a flat on google earth that i wanted to try out and when i got on to the flat my crankbait i was trolling kept hitting bottom so i started to reel it in and as i was reeling i got a solid thunk and pulled and decent 12 inch smallie. the first i have ever caught on beaverdam.

next cast on the same flat with the brush hog i get another hit and it is a smaller 12 inch LMB. I trolled back to the dock getting several more perch and i take a cast to the grass for fun and get another 12 incher just before taking out.

Overall it was a fun day out on the water and i figured out some of the offshore structure patterns.

Nice job Ty. Really need to get out there now that I've got the Commander. ANd with someone with a FF, until I get one installed on the new yak.

Will have to meet up there some Saturday morning

Anytime you catch fish in BDR is a great outing. Well, done! That place can be tough. By the way, those white perch love to hit medium cranks while trolling. ;)

Nice variety you got there I've only gotten LMB there , must of been pretty hot out there today. That place might be the sole reason I get FF. Might have to get back out there once it cools down a bit. Again good work getting fish in the yak

Cheers

Nice report! Thanks for sharing. Even w a ff I rarely have the patience or the confidence to do it like that.

Thanks everyone!!

I have had the fish finder for a while and have seen structure and fish on it but yesterday was the first time that i marked the spot, casted, and got the fish i saw on the finder...that was the most rewarding part of the day.

I have heard how beaverdam is almost exclusively an offshore strucure lake but i just havent had the patience to try that out until yesterday and now i will be doing it much more often.

Will do. Wouldn't happen for at least a couple of weeks for me anyways. Sticking to river close to home this Saturday.
