Falcon is awesome :D but every weekend the water levels keeps getting lower. It's been raining but the level hasn't risen.

Paddled out to here from Zapata public launch and stayed put for hours. We caught 5 fish over 7 lbs from the stumps in this small area. I called it the Loch Ness Hole. Popular area with lots of boat traffic but by far held the best fish of any place I could find on this end of lake. One of few places on this end of lake that I caught fish on jigs (Havoc Craws and Chigger Craws). Water around 13 feet and some of the most awesome strikes as you would normally get hit halfway down and it would just yank your rod down. No problem detecting the bites here. :D

I kept thinking that Tanker44 had probably hit that hole a million times.

Beautiful ledge near the ramp...usually lots of bank fishermen. Didn't fish it long as I was already worn out and just looking to take some pics and happy be to out of the wind.

I couldn't believe how green everything was, beautiful place. Wondered if you usually launched from the public launches or off one of the many dirt roads leading down to the lake. Traveled by boat from one end of lake to the other and couldn't believe where people on foot would just show up out of nowhere.

I never saw another kayak on the water or in town? Are you the only one down there other than Tye fishing from kayaks?

From talking to the fishermen at the ramp, the watering hole and the hotel, no one was bragging about 7 and 8 pounders. Nine and up seemed to be what everyone was after. Just looking at 7 lb skinny fish got me excited! Those fish are L O N G !!!

That lake takes your tackle faster than any place I've ever fished. Weedless doesn't mean rockless. You might as well throw a handful of worm waits over the side when you first start fishing to get yourself in the proper mindset. Knocker rigs are almost useless in the rockpiles.

Noticed folks (families of all ages) walking the exposed house rubble looking for stuff. Don't know if they were looking for fishing tackle or artifacts.

This guy must fish every day. Saw him come down the hill the first morning on the oldest riding lawnmower ever made pulling what looked like a kids wagon on steroids. He would wade out up to his neck throwing a cast net for talapia. The second day he must have brought his daughter who walked up and down the shoreline with her dog only to come running back to papa when he caught something in net. All day for the two days I fished the area, early morning to late afternoon. I'm sure on some days he filled that wagon.

Kept seeing these beautiful eagles flying around with white in their wings. Found out they are called caracara.

Now I guess we know how the lake got the name Falcon.

Its funny but ive only used the boat ramp onces :D i always use dirt roads to get to the lake and launch from there. I try to get alway from all the boats but they always show up and cut you off or fish right next to you cause they like your spot 8-) since the water level has dropped so much ive been fishing near the dam :D
This is the 11lb 24.5in chunker i caught last weekend on a swimming jig in 14ft of water :D

I won't be down again this year unless its around Christmas time but I will be back in the future. Pulling the boat and not knowing what the roads were like or where they went limited me to the public boat ramps on either end of the lake.

We caught most of our biggest fish within a mile or two from Zapata ramp but fished the area around Tigre from the boat all day Thursday. I fished all day Friday from kayak a couple of miles north of dam holding close to the shoreline. Caught 7 fish all under 4 lbs.

This has to be the steepest and longest boat ramp in the world. :D

Couldn't resist paddling into Mexican waters near mouth of the Rio Grande River. Watched two guys walking around near shore line and they beat it back through the thick brush as if they didn't want to see me.

Image
Shared a smoke with these commercial fisherman. They run gill nets on their side of the river. I heard that a lot of US fisherman avoid that area as they constantly hang their props in the nets. It was maybe a half mile paddle across in this area and was totally different looking than the U.S. side. Many more large trees standing in the water and many more birds. This last picture with boaters was looking back towards Texas side.

Image
Took a different route home and road less traveled...but more thouroughly checked out.

Image
Hope to make it back there next year.
